| Hello. My name is Stephen, hunting South Eastern Pennsylvania. I have a Tom that shows up out in a field around 845. Problem is, well there are many. One he is very call shy. Gobbles on the roost, and as soon as I run a call he shuts up. He has probably heard every call on the market. Problem number two, he roosts on private land. Problem number three, I am hunting public land where at anytime someone can bugger him up. Now the last problem, I said he shows up at 8:45a and I have to be out of the woods at 8:15a for work. The area between where he shows up “I hunt” and where he roosts is about 200 yards. Also there is timber in the way so decoys wouldn’t lure him in any quicker. With your turkey experience, how can I hit the turbo button on this bird and get him in my sights before I have to leave for work. The boss wouldn’t be happy with me taking a day off, already tried that.

| | Is the area he "show's up" on the public land your hunting? If so just set up and await his arrival.......If he does not show up to the area before you have to leave and is indeed call shy, I would again set up where he ends up every morning and just produce some very light calling, clucking and purring and old school, scratching in the leaves. s.e. |

| your going to laugh at this one..this morning i did a short fly down cackle and i flapped a wing i seldom use. i did the oldschool, scratching of the leaves and 5:55a the bird showed up. gets better, in my blind i couldnt see exactly where he was but i know he was right next to my blind because i heard a gobble right in my ear, so loud and close it scared the poop out of me. so now i instantly have "buck fever". he gobbled 2 more times which had to be directly at my blind at about 15 feet. now he walked out directly away from my blind but enough of angle where he came into view, struttin the whole time. well finally heart pumping out of my chest i take the shot, maybe 20 yards. i knock the bird down and hes doing the dance. game over.. so i though.. i get out of my blind, look up and he is flying away... nothing like catch and release turkey hunting.. ha i'm so bummed out

| Greetings, Stephen. Welcome to the forum. All I can say about your hunt is that's turkey hunting. My question is, did you check for him after the shot? You never know cuz I hit a bird last week that ran into the woods from a field after the shot, but we got him fortunately. The bird had his head erect, but began tucking his head back into strut as I shot. I rocked the bird, however, he never hit the ground and made it into the woods. I was positive that I hit the bird and I'm glad that I went after it to check.

| | yes i did look for him after the shot.. thats the first thing i did after i saw him fly away. i spent and hour and 15 minutes zig zaging the area i saw him land. 2 years ago i found a bird my dad shot after he gave up looking for it. it was hiding under stuff you would kick a rabbit out of. since the bird i shot at today flew away i dont think i brook any wings therefor there is still a chance he can get up into roost. trust me iv been bummed out all day thinking about the fact that this bird has a chance of dieing at anytime. also my buddie offered to take his dog out tomorrow morning to see if it can find the bird, just incase he didnt make it. i know you dont get every turkey you shot at, even the best of the best "miss". just bad luck..
