I am having trouble with my purrs on a mouth call using my tongue. I can purr using my lips but cannot pull it off using my tongue. Any suggestions?

I purr by "gargling" air in the back of my throat... I use my tongue to control that air across the call and close/relax my lips as much as possible to muffle the sound.

Learning to do a realistic purr can be frustrating for alot of people.  Just keep the things above in mind and keep a call in your mouth... eventually it will come to you.

Hope this helps.

I find a single or double reed w/ no cuts call is the simplest, and most controllable when making purrs and whines. The thinner the reed, the better I can "stretch it with my tongue, and control pitch and volume.

Easiest way I can explain it is to get your tongue to flutter with a steady stream of air without the call in your mouth. Blow as hard as you need to to attain the fluttering action of your tongue. Next place the call back in your mouth. Let the call "float" just enough tongue pressure to keep it in place. Then apply that same stream of air to get your tongue to roll. You should make some type of sound that resembles a purr. Keep in mind to use as much air as you need to to get the initial tongue flutter. Then back it down to make it real......Hope this helps...

Thanks Scott. Are you at the NWTF convention? I would love to make a trip down there one of these years.
