| | Both of these bucks were shot out of the same deer drive about 10 minutes and 750 yards apart. It was one of the best drives I have been a part of over the years...everything worked EXACTLY like we planned it - gotta love it when a plan comes together!!! 49 deer later...these two lay dead on the ground waiting for the most pain in *** drag I have ever had to make in 21 years of hunting deer!!! My neighbor and deer hunting partner, Ryan, is on the left.

| | Nice Bucks fellas. I too am a PA hunter, and say what you will, I do believe the antler restrictions and re-evaluation of harvesting immature bucks are beginning to pay off. |

| longbeard_11 (12/16/2008) Nice Bucks fellas. I too am a PA hunter, and say what you will, I do believe the antler restrictions and re-evaluation of harvesting immature bucks are beginning to pay off.I agree 100%. The size of the average buck I saw this year compared to all previous years was a lot larger. Most of the bucks I saw this year were 7 points or larger and all had 16" spreads plus!!! I passed on a couple bucks in archery and a couple in the first couple days of rifle season. The griping I think is coming from the guys that don't want to put the time in to scouting and actually hunting. They want to go out to the same spot they have sat in for the last 30 years and see 50+ deer. It just isn't going to happen now!!! The reason I saw as many bucks as I did this year was solely due to putting hours upon hours into scouting my hunting areas, identifying bedding and feeding areas as well as travel routes, staging areas, etc. Guys ask how I see as many deer as I do every year...my only answer is spending a LOT of time in the woods and hunting areas that most guys won't take the time to walk to or won't try to get into because of the thickness of the cover, etc. The PGC has a done a good job with the antler restrictions and knocking down the doe population. Granted, you don't see as many deer as you used to see years ago, but the deer you see are typically bigger, healthier deer. Put your time in...and you WILL be rewarded!!! |
