It makes them sound better when I'm hunting. When I'm done hunting I seperate the reeds with toothpicks(the round ones) and leave them between the reeds until I hunt again. I had a V3 that I used for 3 seasons until I finally retired it. The turkeys came to that call, in case you were wondering. I usually rinse them with water in the morning before I leave the house. In all seriousness, I should probably read some type of proper care for mouth callers, but my current system seems to work pretty good.

RE: Mouth call care

I rinse my mouth calls in Crest ProHealth mouth wash diluted with water. It is Alcohol Free. I thin use flat toothpick to hold the reeds apart while they dry. It is very important to remove all the Saliva(Spit) from between the reeds. This is what causes the reeds to stick together. If the reeds are not apart the call will not work right.

RE: Mouth call care

There are several posts on the proper care of mouth calls I believe in the Sting Team forum.

Sadler McGraw and Matt Van Cise both comment on how they do it. If it's good enough for them... it's good enough for me.

RE: Mouth call care

I rinse my calls under the faucet, then dip them in mouthwash. They then go into the fridge in a plastic snuff can. At the start of the season, I soak the calls in warm water, then gently seperate any reeds that may be sticking together by running them under warm/hot water with a toothpick (the flat ones are safer...be careful). I had calls for over 5 years, and I use them a lot.

Mouth call care

What do you guys do to keep your mouth calls clean?
