It seems to be the one that is always in my mouth after the shot. I usually take a few of these calls and make a small cut into the back corners of the horseshoe and make me one with a small cut dead center in the horseshoe. This just gives me a call that I can still get a clear front end on what ever I need and adds a little more rasp at the end if I want it.

Question is. I am sure I will be buying several of the new ghost cut calls and will probably do a little modifying to them also, but what upfront differences should I expect from the new calls versus Sadler's call. I don't know the specs on Sadlers call thickness of latex, stretch, etc and was just wondering the differences and what was the target result with the development of the new ghost cuts.

The one thing I hope about them if like the Sadler calls. If they are keepers for me, then if I just order 1 or 2 I am pretty confident that they will be good. I bet over the last 2 or 3 years I have bought 25 of the Sadler call and they have all went to the woods. Your alls consistency in mouth calls at Woodhaven is not just advertising, you all do a good job.

I am kinda hopong that they are about the same where now I can modify them a little and have a color coordinated set of calls to choose from. Instead of a bunch of orange and grey ones with 1's and 2's and 3's on them.

Texas State Calling Contest Results

STATE

1. I haven't called in a contest in about ten years but am going to get back into it w/ 2 contests coming up at the end of the month and beginning of Feb. My questions are these: Do most judges look for a distinct and higher front end turning more raspy when judging hen yelps? Or can they be more raspy throughout? Do most of you competitive callers(anyone who wishes to give some feedback) use the 3 reed inverted 'V" cut during competition? Or do you switch back and forth between calls depending on which call your performing? Thanks for any input.

VERMONT STATE 2010 CALLING CONTEST RESULTS

VERMONT STATE 2010 CALLING CONTEST RESULTS

STATE

1st Phil Salzano

2nd Eric Morton

3rd Brent Lafreniere

OPEN

1st Brent Lafreniere (call off)

2nd Jason Isabelle

3rd Nick Smith

FRICTION

1st Jason Isabelle

2nd Ken Jones

3rd Don Isabelle

TEAM

1st Jason Isabelle/Don Isabelle

2nd Brent Lafreniere/Eric Morton

Great Northeast sports show

Is anyone going to the calling contest this saturday?

GA

Heard some of U guys are going to be in Georgia this weekend. What you guys recommend to achieve a higher front end and not quite so much low end rasp? He likes a "bat wing cut." He also likes proph calls, just as I do. Does Woodhaven make an all proph call in a bat wing cut? The problem, is that he and I have a tough time finding calls that we can blow accurately time after time. I cannot seem to achieve a purr on a diaphragm. I have read the posts before and cannot seem to achieve a good gargling sound.

I have been working on fluttering my tongue and can do this with no problem, however when I do, it sounds nothing like a purr, very aggressive and not really realistic in my opinion. Is it unrealistic to achieve and realistic sound using this method? Does anyone have any suggestions, call positioning, tongue positioning etc... I have been using the Sadler, Crabtree, Singlewing and wasp.

Crafty Easterns

In which southern state is it most difficult to call in and harvest an Eastern longbeard?

(This question deals with the craftiness and intelligence of the birds and not state population numbers)

Louisiana

Mississippi

Alabama

Georgia

Arkansas

Tennessee

South Carolina

Aggressive Cutting

I’m having a hard time finding a call to make aggressive cuts on. Most calls break up or squeak when I apply a burst of air. The only call I found that works for my style is the red wasp. The only down fall is it is hard to keep enough air pressure to do multiple cuts in a sequence. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Famous (Or Infamous) Longbeards

Have any of you guys ever "named" a tricky gobbler that you have consistently hunted?

Im currently hunting a bird on private land in Louisiana that i've dubbed Senor Thunderchicken. He's very large, with an absolutlely beautiful fan, and he has an 11 inch. or greater beard. I see him all the time. I've worked him alot, but he always seems to outsmart me in some way. I'm determined to harvest him.

Also, another weird thing is that although he is definitely the dominant bird in the area (he's run off all the other longbeards in the vicinity), a jake is always with him. They are never apart from each other and he even allows the jake to strut with him when he is courting hens (i have thousands of pictures and videos to prove it). I've even heard them both gobbling together; they both roost in the same tree every night, no matter where they are. This puzzles me because he is definitely an old bird, but allows this "youngster" to stay with him all the time, even after he runs all the other longbeards off. Any ideas, guys? Could it be his son lol?
