I've only went once myself a few years back but didn't do any good. I'm sure most of us are getting ready for our respective deer seasons so I thought I would throw this post out there. I've really wanted to get into fall turkeys more, but I'm just so hard pressed for time. I did have a difficult spring season so maybe I'll take some of my deer hunting time for a try at a turkey.

Tim

woodhaven slate

jst wondering what you gusy might add about the woodhaven slate, what due you do for maintanance and to you work it up with sand paper? what do you do to get that perfect sound or to ge the perfect sweet spot

bigbuck

Wise Old Tom makes mistake

I was able to call this Old Tom away from 4 hens using the Stinger Pro Series Classic mouth call and the Cherry Classic Crystal friction call. He was strutting in the middle of a huge field and I was not able to move on him. I set up in some heavy cover at the edge of the field and went to work on him. I was amazed that he was slowly working my way but the hens were leaving the field on the other end! These turkeys around this area are hunted hard and are extremely cautious. Kudos to WOODHAVEN for making great calls and for Sting Team member Bobby Woods for teaching me how to use them.

checked In

Hey guys, Well I finally checked in you could say, It was a great clear morning one of the few that we've actually had. The hunting for me this year has been super tough but as always everytime im in the woods I am always learning more about these smart ol' longbeards. Working a bird early in the a.m. at roost he would not leave his ladies. While working this bird I had a even bigger bird come in silent until about 75 yards, gobbling only a few times he wouldnt cross the stream bed and walked straight away from me up the hill and went on top of the ridge. After a quick few moves I knew I needed to get around on this bird if I wanted another crack at him. I crow called a few times As I made my way up to pinpoint him as i topped the ridge I gave a few cuts followed by a strong yelp and BOOM gobbled his head off! When he gobbled off it sounded like another long beard and a few jakes gobbled as well. This was a perfect scenario ! Right in between two long beards coming for me ! after some intense moments and not knowing which direction to put my turkey choke in the bird from my right had came strutting in. Flatlined him at 40 yards. This by far has been my favorite turkey hunt ive been on and to make it more special my father and best friend joined me !
Call in with the Sadler McGraw series 22lbs 1 inch spurs and 9 1/2" beard

hope to check in soon again

Hey, Woodhaven Calls work in Wyoming too!

I just let him hear some Sadler Signature soft yelps and purrs, and then the benelli safety came off!

Down to the wire!

These ol' Easterns have been tough in Arkansas this season. I gave up a week of our season to hunt the Goulds in Mexico. You can see my photos of that trip in the General topic section of this website. I did finally manage to bag on the next to the last day of our AR season. I shot this three year old tom at 7:20 am May 1. He had a 10 1/2 in. beard, one inch spurs that were sharp, but he had been so busy with the hens, he only weighed 18 lbs.! He didn't have an ounce of fat on him, and his feathers were worn off of his breast bone area. But, he was still wanting some lovin'! He was just lookin' for love in all the wrong places when he got to within 35 yards of my Benelli. I used a Matt VanCise Signature series call to lure this bad boy into the "strike zone".

I mentioned in an earlier post about shaving my beard if my daughter killed a turkey, well I gave into the kids and let it go. My littlest seems to like kissin' on daddy better without the whiskers. I should have shaved a long time ago!

Real Hen scores for me again

WOOOOT!!! The string is stil alive! 3 in a row!

Man, my hot spot did not pan out this season. I was sure I was gonna score yesterday, I was in the honey hole and the conditions were perfect. However, no luck. Few birds and the fellow down the line had a lead on em and he scored one.

So with the forecast and dim prospects on a new location, when I woke up (without alarm at 4:30) I expected rain and it was dry. "Do I go, don't I go?" I asked myself that question at least 20 times over the next half hour. Finally I said heck with it, I will not kill one if I stay in bed, so off I went.

In the woods about 30 minutes later than normal, I was not set up at fly down. I heard a couple fly down but was not sure their exact location, and heard a distant gobble on someone elses land.

I set up in a couple of places and did some calling to no avail...so at about 6:40 I get up to look for a gobbler. I walked about a hundred yards and hit the Real Hen box call and BOOM! Gobbie fired back. I think maybe this could be good. I walk about 10 more yards and hit it again...BOOM. Now I KNOW this is good.

I jump in the strip of timber and just sit. Here he came, about 70 yards down hill on ground I have no permission to hunt. He struting and doing his best dance to lure this hen to him...she ain't budgin' He is gonna have to come into or through this strip of woods I'm in and up a hill for this to continue to go in my favor. Guess what? That is what he did!

It was at this point I realized I was gonna have to shoot through some major junk to score. Alas, the Benelli M1 Super 90 with a HS turkey tube fell to a shot of Winchester Supreme 3" #6. I am down to 7 shells from that box of 10...should I buy more?

This was the first time I did it on my own, last few years my buddy Dave did the "talking" for me. He was named HOT Gob-eee because he was hot for that Real Hen call.

24lbs
10" beard
1 1/4" spurs

Tough Hunting in Ohio

I'm not sure if anyone else has hunted in Ohio recently this spring, but the gobblers are so tight lipped right now in the region my family and myself hunt. Granted, I've only hunted 3 days so far and I have yet to hear a single gobble. However, my father and my brother have been out the majority of the first two weeks and have had only a small handful of chances to work birds. I'm still upbeat though because I will be hunting 5 out of the next 7 days starting this Sunday

Copperheand II strikes again!!

I love this call. This doesn't seem to draw many comments but the story is so much of the hunt for me I seek to preserve them all.

Only having a few days left in LA had me wanting to take advantage of these clear cool, alright cold mornings. I knew where a few birds have been hanging out and hoped on of my visits would have me close enough to a roosted bird to get in the game. It seems lately a few gobbles early and all is quiet.

I parked far away today and slipped down the road towards where I wanted to be at daylight. I was running a little behind under the misconception that 6:30 was gobble time. Boys, the days are getting longer quick and gobbling at 6:15 is happenin'.

I neared a draw where I saw a gobbler in the road last week. I hit the Primos Power Crow down the draw and invoked a gobble about 500 yds. to the south. That's all it took for me to break out in a dead run down the gravel road for nearly a 1/4 mile.

I slowed down as I neared a pipeline that lead towards where I thought he was. I pulled up my mask, slipped the Classic V3 in my mouth and was about to hit the Crow again when he gobbled right where I heard him.

I slipped down the pipeline towards him about 75 yds. to a familiar spot for me. Finally, after carrying Jennie (my deke) for many miles and never letting her see daylight I plopped her down 20 yds. on the opposite side of me from the bird. She show nough' is ugly after all these years of abuse.

I listened to him gobbling at the crows soaking in the brightening sky and cool morning air. After a few minutes, I decided a few tree yelps were in order to take his temperature.

I was on top of my ridge that dropped off about 40' in elevation before sharply rising up to his ridge, on top of which he was perched about 50 yards off of the pipeline.

My second series of tree yelps was rewarded with a lusty gobble from the scant 125 yds. between us. I was worried he might see my teeth shinin' I was smiling so big. I kept my gun pointed towards the gobbles and waited for fly down time. I was looking forward to some sweet fly down cackles and hoping he would pitch my way. I had a slight risk with the big draw between us but it was too late to get closer. I also had a good backdoor to slip out and around, if necessary.

A few minutes went by and I heard wings in the treetops. To my surprise, they weren't headed downward but horizontal across the sky. I watched a turkey come from his ridge to mine and light in a tree 75 yds away. Against the morning sky, the flying turkey looked small. I wondered if it was a hen or the gobbler. I needed him to gobble again to tell.

About then I started hearing drummin' and leaves to my right and left with the bird in the tree dead center - dilemma! I aimed my gun toward the sounds to the right so if I had to come back it would be easier. I scanned everywhere with wandering eyes looking hard. Was it squirrels? Gobblers? Hens? I needed him to gobble again.

Two more series of tree yelps were met with a rolling gobble from 75 yds away. "Ok, he is right there on the pipeline with me looking down for a hen. Hm, I'll just sit tight and quiet and wait."

I planned to perform some cackles after a while and start scratching and calling away from the ol' boy to lure him my way but none of that was necessary.

After a few minutes I caught movement up in the tree and he pitched out flying right down my gun barrel! I barely lost sight of him as he landed 35-40 yds. downhill. As his white crown and glowing red neck bobbed my direction, I just aimed down the barrel and enjoyed the scenery.

Oh, before I forget, the first gobble I heard when I hit the pipeline sounded like a Jake. I really didn't want to shoot a Jake either but took the chance that I was wrong or maybe could rouse up a jealous Tom that wasn't gobbling yet. However, his gobble rolled and sounded fuller the more he let them out so I figured he was a long beard.

I was going to let him close as he wanted to. I had shots at his head from the time he touched ground. At 20 steps he crested the hill and gave me a full view of all his splendor. I cut down on the V3 call but at that distance he was reconciling that sound coming from this blob on the ground and the hen standing over there - no need to wait any longer - BOOM!

He flipped backwards and barely flinched. I looked at the time: 6:42 a.m. "Lord, that was quick. Thank you so much! Thank you so much!."

Ed

p.s. - AR story to come soon.

Turkey Gun ALMOST Complete!!!

Been up to no good lately...or atleast that what my wife says!!!

Decided this year to purchase a new shotgun...specifically pieced together for turkey hunting. So...I made some phone calls to some good buddies are big time turkey hunters and did a little internet research. After almost 4 weeks of research and phone calls...last weekend I bought it. Decided on a Benelli SuperNova with a Steady Grip. No one had camo...so I had to go with the black synthetic. Ordered a JellyHead Choke Tube this week after speaking with 7 or 8 guys that are shooting that combo. If what they say is true...I most certainly will not be disappointed. Only things left are a good red dot scope and a sling. So...I went to the shop I bought the gun and looked at red dots. After looking a 7 or 8 of them and not wanting to spend a total fortune, I decided on the Bushnell Trophy Multiple Reticle with Red and Green Dots. I am headed out tomorrow to pick up the base to mount it and I will be hitting the patterning board tomorrow or sometime this week. I CANNOT WAIT.....April 26th can't get here soon enough!!!

$ 500 REWARD....

for the notorious Widow Maker. The 2 & 3 yr old TN Tom Association has posted the reward for this known turkey slayer. It was reported that LeRoy Turkey , a 2 yr old tom ( 20 lbs, 9 1/2 inch beard, 1 inch spurs, born in Wilson Co.) met his untimely death at the hands of the Widom Maker ( WM) and his trusty 11-87. An eyewitness, Charlie Crow, saw the whole incident unfold, as he flew high above the woods. The Grapevine Gazette reported that Charlie was making his usual early morning flight above some unnamed timberline, when he spotted the WM making his move towards the unspecting LeRoy's roost tree. LeRoy had greeted his forest friends with a few lusty gobbles. He was hopeful a seductive hen would come to his favorite tree perch. Unfortunately for LeRoy, his romantic call attracted the WM, who proceeded to move into position near LeRoy. Charlie observed the WM place a Feather Flexx decoy hen that would knock the spurs right off any amouros gobbler. The WM let out a soft yelp on what appeared to be a Lynch Foolproof boxcall. Immediately LeRoy said hello to a potential lover. Even Charlie thought it was a real hen, except his birdeye's view revealed the truth. Charlie sounded a warning to LeRoy, but ole LeRoy had only one thing on his mind. Besides, Charlie always was jealous of LeRoy's booming baritone voice, so LeRoy pitched down from his night's abode, and when in search of his little hen friend. Little did he know he had a rendezvous with death. The WM coaxed LeRoy closer with a sweet seductive yelp on a Woodhaven Red Wasp call. Ole LeRoy was so proud of his apparent luck, after a lonely night, he came down the path spitting and drumming. As LeRoy closed the distance to the hidden WM, he was unaware of the Red Dot sight that was now focused on his brillant white and blue crown. 5 lbs of trigger pressure, and LeRoy was transformed from King of the Forest to a delicious fried turkey meal for the WM's family. Let this be a lesson to all would-be Romeos----a hen in the bush might be the ole cunning WIDOW MAKER !!!! The TN Tom Association has issued a warning to their southern cousins. Based on good information, the WM has now has his eye on some Alabama toms. Be afraid---very afraid. Here is the last known photograph of poor ole LeRoy.

SWEET HOME ALABAMA!!!

Got this in Alabama in the pelting rain and thunder! I will be trying it out for the first time this Saturday during our youth season opener here in Arkansas.

Third Bird this week!

Just wanted to say that it is great being able to have the success that I am having this year. I went yesterday morning to another lease that I have. I got out of the truck and heard 3 gobbling across the State Hwy. that I was on. I thought then that it may be a good morning.......that was an understatement.

I started across the middle of the field to get to where I wanted to go. Before I get there, I hear a Jake gobble to the left of where I wanted to go. I moved to the right a little and was on the edge of the field with 100 yards to the left and right of where I sat. I was up on a little flat about 20 yards from the edge of the drop. I sat my decoys out and put in the Copperhead II.

When I cranked down on the call with a few cutts and then some yelps............Boy the woods came alive. I heard 7 different gobblers and had 3 comming on a string. While I was waiting on these three to come up the hill to the flat, I look out in the middle of the field close to the road, and there stands a full grown man rattling off gobbles with every breath. I looked to the left and see one head then another and then another head. Three 2 year olds come straight to the decoys and started strutting at 15 yards. Nothing like feeling the breath of a gobble in your face in the morning much less three at the same time. I pick up my gun due to them knowing the gig is up when the decoys are not moving. They started to move to the left and I get my gun shouldered. I shoot and miss the first one. With all the excitment I did not get my head down on the gun. I pump and take the second shot and the gobbler rolls up at 25 yards.

I sit tight after the shot and watch the other gobbler that came across the Hwy. The bird I just shot is flopping around and I start a fighting pur. He is looking and starts to gobble. He heads to the right and into the woods. I pur again and the other two that was with this one gobble in the woods. I shut up for about 15 minutes and nothing. I get up and hear a putt to my right. Big boy was comming but I spooked him. Oh well, I enjoyed the morning. My gobbler had a 9 and 7/8's inch beard and 1 inch spurs. He weighted approx 18 lbs. Good two year old. I let the area rest today but I have two kids who have never Turkey Hunted before comming home with me tonight from church. My son and 11 year old Daughter will be with us as well. Hope they will know the feeling I felt the first trip I went on with my Shop Teacher at school 25 years ago this spring. I still thank him to this day. We have just recently got back in touch with each other and he is going to come down for a hunt with me. I will be taking the video camera on that hunt. Sorry its so long. Good Luck, Tim

3-24-08 Louisiana Gobbler

Guys,

I love to write and read all the details of the hunt. so the long nad short of it are below.

The short of it: Let's just say he didn't gobble much on the roost. He didn't fly down until after 8 am. He wouldn't respond to my calls very well. He gobbled more at me scratching and walking than calling. It took 3 hours and 15 minutes. I picked up the wad next to his body.

The long of it:

Why is it so hard to just believe? Why is it hard to accept what we know is true even though we can’t see it? Why can’t we trust our experience or past information? I guess that is where the saying, “Seeing is believing” comes from.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Turkeys make me toil with such questions every Spring it seems. They make me ponder and conclude on their existence or disappearance annually. Even with the habitat, fall sightings and their return each Spring I still doubt. Is this going to be a year where I completely strike out? Why is it this way? I don’t know but I do know that when I am in turkey sign up to my neck I usually don’t see any but when sign is sparse I seem to run into them at every turn. Such, was the hunt I am about to lay out before you.

I have been listening for several weeks hearing a few gobbles on or near my turkey haunt, which was encouraging. However, as the season drew closer I heard less gobbling and couldn’t find a turkey track. “Have they been trapped and taken away again?” “Had the large amount of adjacent hardwoods being clear cut caused them to seriously migrate?” were questions causing the doubt.

Just as in years past one day they appear seemingly out of thin air. Such was the case opening weekend. All of a sudden a gobbler and hen track appeared on a sandy road. 3 jakes traveling down the gravel road mid-morning and a hen coming to investigate my yelps answered all the questions posed above. This made me ready to come back at daylight one day soon, which turned out to be Monday morning.

The cardinals started singing and at 6:44 a.m. I heard a gobble to the ESE. A minute later a gobble to the WNW but half the distance as the first. The first bird was gobbling heavy. The second bird a lot less but consistent enough for me to head his way with the back up plan to go after the loud mouth bird later, if necessary.

I eased through the oil well clearing and down the pipeline towards him. He was on the adjacent ridge near the top in some tall pines. I had called in a hen right behind that oil well location on Sat. and figured I could get to him the same way she had come. However, the woods were too loud so I got back on the pipeline to get as close as possible without being spotted. I made it to within 150 yds. from him and directly across the creek from him.

I could shoot to and across the creek and down the pipeline. I hoped he would come out to the pipeline to strut or be headed to the food plot 250 yards behind me where I had seen the gobbler track Sat. He, of course had other plans.

About 7 a.m., with enough light for fly down I attempted to end the hunt quickly. I was hoping for my tree yelps to produce lusty gobbles, followed by wing beats ending with him landing down my barrel. Not likely. He didn’t respond. A few more tree yelps and a fly-down cackle to my left produced a gobble but looking back I think it was coincidental. A few minutes later all was quiet.

I occasionally clucked and scratched in the leaves. In fact, I raked a big pile next to me for this purpose realizing he wasn’t very responsive and maybe the subtle approach was in order today.

After a soft series of yelps about 7:30 a.m., I received the same back from about 50 yds. out in front of me. We traded yelps as they got closer. I was licking my lips thinking even if he won’t gobble maybe she is dragging him by here.

I caught movement in the bottom and a dark turkey was walking directly towards me followed by a second. “Hmm, dark like gobblers, no red wattles and yelping coarsely.” I heard them fly across the creek and shortly 3 jakes popped out on the pipeline and traveled right by me up the ridge behind me. They all had grey heads and were not excited at all or maybe just staying submissive.

Due to the lack of gobbling, I wondered if he was still there or if the jakes had been the one’s gobbling. “Surely not. He had a booming gobble and they had no color at all.”

At 8 a.m. I stood to stretch and considered making a move. “But where? All I know is that he hasn’t come out onto the pipeline. The woods are noisy and he could still be right there.” Out of no where a gobble rings out from the same spot at daylight – he was still in the tree. Directly I heard wings and limbs as he pitched out to the ground beneath his roost tree near the top of the ridge.

I gave few minutes and yelped to get no response. A little later I scratched in the leaves and he gobbled from 150 yds. Occasionally he would gobble at crows or hawks or my scratching but never my calls. With him on the ground I felt a little more confident in moving but I figured he could see to the creek, which was right in front of me. I stayed put. We continued this until about 9 a.m. when he gobbled from higher on the ridge. I knew I could move undetected now and figured he had my position pegged and movement would do the trick.

I scratched and purred my way down the ridge and across the creek about 20 yds. I sat against a big red oak and made a few yelps. I expected a booming gobble down the ridge with him strutting down shortly afterwards. I was met with more silence only to be broken by him gobbling at my leave scratching or a hawk or blue jay but almost never my hen talk. His gobbles continued to sound from the ridge top.

I scratched and purred my way up the ridge higher and higher. About half way up and almost to where he had been roosted, he gobbled from just over the crest. I determined then I could get away with more movement. As long as my purring, clucking, scratching and walking sounded like a real hen I would be fine – unless he popped back over to inspect!

Without much regard to the dry leaves I walked up the ridge toward him occasionally scratching and purring stopping every 20-30 yards or so. Near the top the brush was thicker and I contemplated circling around it but knew he had just gone through it and I needed it to hide behind.

The anxiety level was increasing with every foot of elevation I gained going up the tall ridge. I slid out of my vest 30 yds. from the top to give me more maneuverability. He continued to gobble at my scratches and false steps in the leaves made with my hands. He was 50 yds. away and spitting and drumming constantly back and forth. I pressed on towards the top daring to go to the edge. His lack of response made me realize he was never coming and expected me to come up there. So I was going to accommodate him as best as possible.

At this point, I only moved after he revealed his location with a gobble. I was now 10 yds. from the crest of the ridge. If he popped his head over for a peak and my gun wasn’t on him this whole deal was going to end with putts and wind beats. I dared not go any farther. I lightly scratched with my foot and he boomed back – Gobble! He was just over the crest of the ridge still but sounded to be more in a little hole.

There was a slight dip in front of me and it sounded like he was a little lower so I crawled on hands and knees through the dip to a grass patch 7-8 yds. from the ridge crest and barely sat erect while holding my gun at the ready. I could barely see a small shelf on the other side of the ridge but no gobbler.

I sat in silence for several minutes. I started concluding I had moved one to many times and then Pffftttttt…dmmmmmm still just over the ridge crest. “Yes, we are still in the game.” I softly scratched with my foot – GOBBLE!

Leaves crunching and drumming seemed closer than at any time previously. I nervously scanned the ridge crest for movement knowing my gun needed to be on target. Movement down the ridge caught my attention. He regally appeared on the ridge with my at 20 yds.

My gun was only off about 10 degrees and as he walked towards my brush obscured his view and I adjusted. He walked into a gap in the brush where I could see everything above his beard. “Take your time. Don’t flub this. Down the barrel.” BOOM!

I jumped up and he was rolled over a mere 15 yds. away flapping. I rushed to him. The surge of adrenaline and long intensity had me shaken. I tossed my hat and fell down next to him. I looked up into the blue sky and offered thanks to the Lord. It was almost 5 minutes before I inspected his beard or spurs. I didn’t care. This had been an epic battle and I won. The measurements are secondary at best.

Two Hours and Two Beginers Connect

Just thought I would share a picture with yall. I took My Wife for her first ever turkey hunt Saturday Morning here in Georgia for the Season Opener. All of about 15 minutes and she has one down. I used the Copperhead II and this Jake was on a string. Our 11 Year Old Daughter that broke her collar bone and was unable to hunt was the videographer for the hunt.

I took another beginner today and 30 minutes after we sit down, he has his first one. A jake as well. I used the Copperhead today. I am loving these short hunts and these beginners luck. I have two more young men comming home with me from Church tomorrow night who have never been turkey hunting. They will be here for a couple of days. I just love this type of beginners luck. I'm pretty sure I'm as excited as he is and his dad told me last night that the boy was REALLY excited!

We're hunting a farm his dad and I have hit over the past few years. I am tagged out after opening week in Ohio. I put the smack down on two nice strutters one on opening day and the other on this past Friday as part of a triple header with my father and brother. The birds weighed 20.5lbs and 23.5lbs with 10inch and 8.75inch beards and 1inch spurs respectively. WoodHaven calls were a big assist of course for that real hen talk, namely the single wing diaphragm and the Legend glass slate with the birch and epoxy straight tip striker. A big thanks to WoodHaven! I am slowly trying to convert my brother and father. They both have the hybrid Real Hen box call like me. In my opinion, WoodHaven calls sell themselves by just hearing the real hen inside the calls.

Good luck to all,

Tim

P.S. I have been twice. I went for the first time on 2-28-08. It was the first nice, clear morning (low 38, calm) in a while and close enough to Mar. when I usually scout and listen.

I was not disappointed. As that eastern horizon lightened a gobble rang out in the distance. I looked toward the sky and thanked God. "Is it really this time of the year again?" I wanted to dance. I ended up hearing 3 different gobblers in 3 locations and probably 2 others but far off.

None of them were real fired up. Just a few gobbles from the limb. The loudest mouthed one sounded like a Jake but you never know.

I went back Tue. morning (3-4-08)-clear, low 32 and a little more breezy. I heard one gobble but at least from a location where I heard one a week earlier

How about ya'll?

Ed

Gobblers up high

This past weekend me and a buddy went in the woods early to just see if we would hear one. A little after 6am he double gobbles and hard then about ten minutes later he gobbles again so we take off to see where he is hanging. To make a long story short I thought he was about 300 yards and he was only 200. I think I am a liitle over 100 yds away and I am looking for him on top of water. Well he's only about 75 yards and he has to be 75 feet up I couldn't believe it I have never seen one that high then I see his brother almost as high right next to him. Has anyone ever seen birds this high? What would make them go way up there? He was in a cypress tree.

cajun

Limit

You can now harvest three gobblers per year here in VA. I just thought I would chime in to try and get everyone's blood boiling a little bit. Back on Saturday (02/09), my father, sons and myself were on our way to go to breakfast and as we're driving along in the country out in a field were three gobblers ( two long beards and a jake ) putting on a mid winter strutting show for a lone hen. I pulled off the main road to a nearby back road to stop to enjoy the show. My sons are still young yet ( 3 1/2 and 21 months ), but they really enjoyed it. I've seen turkeys in the winter before, but never strutting for a hen this early in the year. I feel fortunate being at the right place at the right time for my family to experience. Just little memories like this are really what it is all about. I cannot wait until SPRING to begin!!!!

Tim

07 Ohio Gobbler

Here is my 1st bird of the year...Not sure if I will try for another one thees birds literly kicked my butt...I hunted them for 11 day's before I could get one to leave the group of hen's that they where with...I harvested this one with a Winchester X2 using Winchester Extended shot, 3 1/2 6 shot...I shot him at around 35 yards on Sunday morning at 6:40 am...Soory for not a real good picture..this one is off of my phone some how my camera ones did not get saved.....Ed

Weight...23 lbs
beard...11 1/4
spurs... 1 1/4 and 1 inch

Alabama Turkeys

Hey guys, newbie to the forum. I had these two birds within 60 to 80 yards watching them breed two hens for over an hour. They spooked once when a fox squirrel came into the field between me and them. I used the Copperhead II to calm them down and they went back at. Two Gobblers and two hens on May 10, 2007. I took the older bird that was doing all the breeding first at 60+ yards. 9 and 1/8th inch beard and 1 and 1/8th inch spurs 16 pounds. I jumped up to go get on his head and the other gobbler was strutting facing away from me. I took him at 43 yards. He had a 10 and 1/8th inch beard and 1 inch spurs and weighed 18 pounds. I have never put my body through so much pain trying to take a nice gobbler in all my life but it was well worth it. Thanks Mike. The calls work great and I am hooked on your team. Team Woodhaven.
