| | I wrapped up my Alabama season this morning by calling in 2 jakes and letting them walk. It was tough to let the biggest one go. He was gobbling like a big boy. Liberty City Longbeard told me at work the other day that shooting jakes is bad luck and since we fly out to South Dakota this Wednesday, I didn't want to jinx us. 2 buddies went to SD about 2 weeks ago and both tagged out in 2 days. This will be my 2nd trip to the Black Hills. I wrapped up my Alabama season with one jake and one longbeard. It was a tough season. The longbeard was killed just yesterday morning and he followed a hen to my set-up. I just couldn't find any lonely Toms.

| | I hope your luck in SD is better than a buddy of mine's luck. He has been guiding for Prairie Sky Outfitters...got a text from him Saturday morning - 5 feet of snow in the driveway at the lodge!!!! Up until the last week, everyone he has guided has tagged out...and then came the snow. GOOD LUCK!!!! |

| The weather does not look promising, but that's what you get when you have to book the airline ticket about 30 days in advance to get the lowest price. We will hunt Th, Fri, and Sat. They are calling for wind on Th and Fri with a high of 38 on Friday.

| The weather was awful for our trip. Our 3 day hunt was basically reduced to one good afternoon after the snow started melting. We also got to hunt the next morning before leaving to catch the plane. They have a ton of birds in SD. Most of the gobblers we saw had hens. I love hunting in SD, it seems like you can get a gobbler to respond at any time of the day. This old boy was shot at 7:15pm. He would answer to let me know where he was, but he had 4 or 5 hens with him. I would make him gobble with cutts from a VanCise sig and then sneak a little closer if I could tell he couldn't see me. Some large boulders provided cover to sneak in the last 40 yards. When I looked around the boulder, I could see a large bird, but I thought it was a jake. I could see about 2 inches of beard. With my bead on his neck, I cutt one last time. That was his last gobble ever.

| Beautiful lonbeard, Yelp! Sorry the weather was so poor up there. But, hey, you hung in there and stuck with it, and it payed off. Often times it is our tenacity and patients that gets us the bird, and I'm sure it took alot of both for you to hang in there with 'em in the snow.
