for the notorious Widow Maker. The 2 & 3 yr old TN Tom Association has posted the reward for this known turkey slayer. It was reported that LeRoy Turkey , a 2 yr old tom ( 20 lbs, 9 1/2 inch beard, 1 inch spurs, born in Wilson Co.) met his untimely death at the hands of the Widom Maker ( WM) and his trusty 11-87. An eyewitness, Charlie Crow, saw the whole incident unfold, as he flew high above the woods. The Grapevine Gazette reported that Charlie was making his usual early morning flight above some unnamed timberline, when he spotted the WM making his move towards the unspecting LeRoy's roost tree. LeRoy had greeted his forest friends with a few lusty gobbles. He was hopeful a seductive hen would come to his favorite tree perch. Unfortunately for LeRoy, his romantic call attracted the WM, who proceeded to move into position near LeRoy. Charlie observed the WM place a Feather Flexx decoy hen that would knock the spurs right off any amouros gobbler. The WM let out a soft yelp on what appeared to be a Lynch Foolproof boxcall. Immediately LeRoy said hello to a potential lover. Even Charlie thought it was a real hen, except his birdeye's view revealed the truth. Charlie sounded a warning to LeRoy, but ole LeRoy had only one thing on his mind. Besides, Charlie always was jealous of LeRoy's booming baritone voice, so LeRoy pitched down from his night's abode, and when in search of his little hen friend. Little did he know he had a rendezvous with death. The WM coaxed LeRoy closer with a sweet seductive yelp on a Woodhaven Red Wasp call. Ole LeRoy was so proud of his apparent luck, after a lonely night, he came down the path spitting and drumming. As LeRoy closed the distance to the hidden WM, he was unaware of the Red Dot sight that was now focused on his brillant white and blue crown. 5 lbs of trigger pressure, and LeRoy was transformed from King of the Forest to a delicious fried turkey meal for the WM's family. Let this be a lesson to all would-be Romeos----a hen in the bush might be the ole cunning WIDOW MAKER !!!! The TN Tom Association has issued a warning to their southern cousins. Based on good information, the WM has now has his eye on some Alabama toms. Be afraid---very afraid. Here is the last known photograph of poor ole LeRoy.
