Hey guys I've read alot of your posts about your reeds sticking together and having to break them free every morning after they have dried from the previous hunt.  If you'll use flat toothpicks to seperate the top reed, you'll get longer life out of the call and definetly more ease of use.  It takes a little more effort but to be able to just put a little saliva in between the reed, slide that toothpick out and your ready for business.  I store my calls in one of the small panfish jig boxes.  Plenty of room and you just drop the pick in the compartment the call was stored in.

Good Post...

Another tip, what I do, is keep my calls in a plastic snuff can.  I punch a few small holes in the lid and dampen a cotton ball with mouthwash.  Be careful that your calls don't become saturated!  I've found it prevents the reeds from sticking, and also keeps any bacteria from building up on them.  Just as an added precation, I do hammer my calls on my way to my hunting spot...can't wait for PA season, still almost a month away.

I've heard alot about not saturating your mouth calls in mouth wash. What will it do to the calls when you do? I keep my calls in plastic dip can and have saturated them for about 3-4 hours then drain it out and always keep them in the frigerator when not hunting. What do i need to do different. Thanks

Jake

As far as saturating the calls, I meant that you shouldn't keep them in standing liquid for extended periods of time.  As you described, saturating, then draining and storing in a cool, dark spot is fine.  It seems to almost loosen the reeds and causes the mouthcall to lose some of its tone if they're kept in a constant liquid environment.  Hope this helps!

Yes it does i ave just never heard of the effects that mouth wash has on calls if left for an extended period of time. I like putting a new call in my mouth with that minty flavor. Thanks for your help!!

1. Agitate in 50 50 mouth wash water solution for 30 seconds

2. Rinse under faucet cool water

3. Shake

4. Lay on paper towel until dry

4. Refrigerate

I urge everyone to use Non Alcohol mouth wash, alcohol mouth wash will dry the latex over time.
