They both sound GREAT.....Woodhaven offers two different types of wood for two different sounds.  The Cherry is a little brighter in my opinion & the Walnut is a little more mellow.  It really depends on how you run the call as well.

If I had to pick just one it would be difficult.  I have all of Woodhaven's friction calls and the Cherry Crystal and the Legend Slate is always in my vest.  You can't go wrong with any choice.

My personal preference is the Cherry Crystal, however the slate sounds very good.  The Cherry is a little higher pitch and the yelps seem to break a little crisper.  The slate is excellent for the clucks and purrs, but the yelps are a little toned down compared the the cherry.

Good Luck...you can't go wrong with those choices.

It seems as though I go back and forth every year on this... but right now I have the Cherry Slate in my vest.  Last year it was the Legend (Walnut)... the Legend is quite a bit nastier and has a little more power with cutting... but I like the high pitch and smooth break of the Cherry myself.

It's a toss-up... but as mentioned above you can't go wrong with Woodhaven.

What I'm hoping for (fingers crossed) is a slate version in that new Vision pot!

I just received my Legend slate a couple months ago...and it is one sweet call.  Nice and raspy, and I can get plenty loud on it.  The thing I love the best though is the sweet soft clucks and purrs it makes.  By far the best slate I have ever tried.
