Well...I haven't been around for a little over a week now, with the exception of a post or two here and there and here is why:

Last Friday (1/25), my father had major surgery (sigmocolectomy and some bladder electrocauterization).  About 5 months ago he was diagnosed with SEVERE diverticulitis.  They had him run several courses of antibiotics to supress the inflammation/infection to no avail.  Over the past month and a half, he had been experiencing major bladder pain and more pain than you can imagine during urinating.  He went back to the doctor and after speaking to the doctor they finally sent him to a specialist.  In about 5 minutes the specialist knew exactly what was going on and told my father you MUST have surgery.  Well...he scheduled the surgery and according to the doctors, the surgery went very well...better than they could have hoped.  They were able to remove the infected colon and any other colon showing signs of diverticulosis as well as patch up his bladder.  The diverticulitis was so bad it had pushed up against the bladder and created small passage ways to exchange bile acid/bowel fluids into the bladder, hence the extreme pain during urination.  They were able to identify and fix the passageways....Then he was off to recovery.  The end was in sight....

Here is where I need your prayers....it is almost 10 days later and he is still in ICU.  His respiratory patterns are erratic, his breathing is shallow, his lung capacity is not where it should be and he is in terrible pain during bowel movements.  He seems to be out of it most of the time and they now think he is facing a major infection (possibly MRSA).  So they are treating him with so many antibiotics and top shelf antibiotics to help with that.  It just seems that everytime he makes a small step forward....BAM....something else happens and now he is two steps behind.  My dad is my rock, my mentor...he has always been indestrucible...and to see him like this kills me.  I am spending every waking moment I can with him...but I just have this feeling he is giving up.  He is only 65 and is as died hard a hunter as anyone I have ever known.

If I could....I would ask for your prayers for my father for a full and quick recovery from this painful and exhausting ordeal.  He has a lot to offer to the world....and a granddaughter that loves him more than anything.

God is in control...don't ever doubt that! Like Cajun said" you need to be there for your dad!" We don't know why sometime, nor how...but GOD is in control...he may be calling you closer at this time....don't feel sorry for yourself and let the devil defeat you! He will if you let him! When we humble ourselves to God, we are strengthened with his majesty and strength beyond our imagination! I've already said too much...know that prayers are being lifted for your father!

Just to let know that prayers are sent from VA. I thought Mike had some very good advise, just be there as much as you can and remember God will never put more on us than we are able to bear.

My prayers are with your dad, and your whole family.  Hang in there!  Trust in the Lord with all your heart, don't lean on your own understanding!  In ALL your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path!!!

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers...

My father is making steps toward recovery...finally.  We had a bit of set-back yesterday as they found two small abcesses in his colon.  They had to install subcutaneous drains to drain the abcessed fluid...but it has relieved a LOT of pain for him.  I truly feel we may have crested the hill at this point.  Assuming the infection is handled properly and the drains do their job, I think the downhill slide is in sight.

Again...thank you for you thoughts and prayers....and thank you for the advice Mike!!!  It was all appreciated and I took the advice to heart....
