My nine year old daughter recently bestowed "The Smack" upon her very first whitetail.  She put a perfect shot on this doe with her Youth Model 770, .243 Remington.  I hope everyone's Thanksgiving was as happy as mine and Sydney's!!!

God Bless,

Cliff

Thanks TTB.

I'm sure you'll get to have the same experience with your boys.  I had another great experience on the opening day of muzzle loader season.  I had my five year old son in one of my Buddy stands, and he got to see me lay the smack down on a big doe.  We are smooth covered up with deer and turkeys.  We have way too many does.  We had several doe permits this year, between me and my buddies.  Here in Arkansas, doe permits are given out based on a drawing within the guidelines of a quota system.  The number of doe permits issued to your zone depends on what deer zone you hunt.  I am fortunate enough to be in one of the zones that receives one of the highest number of doe permits issued.  I've been trying to put the slam on them with my bow, as well.  I've had some bad luck with my bow this year.  I've shot a few deer that I could not find.  I have hopefully corrected that problem by switching form a mechanical broadhead (Rocket) to a fixed blade broadhead.  I am anxious to shoot a deer with this new set up to see how it does.  We have a three day muzzle loader hunt coming up this weekend.  Hopefully the roads won't ice up and keep me from getting to the woods.  The forecast looks like it could be snow, sleet, freezing rain, or just rain, depending on how far down the cold front pushes.  I would love to have snow on Saturday.  I LOVES me some snow!  Wheather I'm hunting deer, mallards, or cottontails, hunting in the snow is FUUUUUUUN!

Good luck to everyone, and I wish you all a Very Merry Christmas!  And remember, Jesus is the reason for the season!!!

God Bless,

Cliff

Great to hear back from you, Doc! I'm still waiting to harvest a deer with my new bow, maybe late season I'll hopefully get a chance, but I'm going to get some time for Ohio's muzzleloader season and I can't wait especially because I missed our gun season. Either way, I use a "smoke pole". Speaking of snow, we're getting hammered here in Ohio right now. Keep in touch.

Way to go Sydney and Doc!

Benjamin(8) got his first deer earlier this year (about the same day actually) also a doe! I have been so swamped with all the necassaries of the newborn and the rest of the family things plus work that I haven't done a good job posting things like that nor have I gotten to all these important posts about these great kids killin' their firsts! YOU GO GIRL!

CONGRATS AGAIN!

Taking a kid hunting for the first time is that greatest feeling. Even when the child is not your own. The youth are the future of the hunting heritage. I took a 10 year old bow hunting deer for his first time and he shot the first hole through the shot through mesh on my new blind. He made a perfect shot on a nice button buck and we were both very happy. He could not believe he did it. It was a great feeling for me that he got it after I got him set up with his bow. When he came to stay with us for the weekend to go hunting he had the wrong rest and a broken sight. I got him all set up and sighted in. It was great.
